Tight security for Baishakhi celebration: DMP chief
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said today that there was no security threat centering the Pahela Baishakh and DMP will take steps to insure peaceful celebration on the first day of the Bengali New Year.
“There is no security threat on the issue of Baishakhi celebration. We are ready to tackle all sorts of anarchies. The law enforcement agencies have taken all measures to ensure foolproof security for peaceful and smooth celebration,” he told this at a press briefing at DMP media centre, reports BSS.
The commissioner said the DMP also issued a ban on not allowing anyone to wear mask, smoking and playing vuvuzela to avoid any untoward incidents during the celebration of Pahela Baishakh celebration.
He said legal actions will be taken against them who will play vuvuzela and smokers, adding, “We have taken all measures to ensure a fool-proof security for smooth and peaceful celebration of the traditional Pahela Baishakh… at celebration venues,” he said.
Among others, additional commissioners Shahabuddin Querishi, Mir Rezaul Alam and Monirul Islam were present at the briefing.
On the Pahela Baishakh celebration particularly the main venue Ramna Park, Suhrawardi Udyan, Dhaka University, Rabindra Sarobar, Hatirjheel, Gulshan Park, Bahadurshah Park and its surrounding areas will be brought under stringent security arrangement by setting up closed circuit camera televisions, archways, and watch towers and deploying law enforcers in large numbers, the DMP chief said.
The city dwellers have been requested not to carry trolley bag, large vanity bag, knife, firearms, scissor, blade and gaslight for the sake of security, he said.
Asaduzzaman Miah said no one will be allowed to wear masks while taking part in the procession (Mongol Shovajatra) and to inform police about any sort of suspicious movement.
He also requested the city dwellers to leave Ramna Park and Suhrawardi Udyan areas by 6pm on the day.
“People have to pass through archways as well they will be checked and inspected manually and electronically while entering the celebration area”.
According to traffic details, the DMP has taken elaborate measures to ensure better traffic management in the capital city. Traffic movements will be stopped on the Pahela Boishakh at Bangla Motor-Ruposhi Bangla-Shahbagh-TSC-Doel Chattar; Ruposhi Bangla- Kakrail-Matshya Bhaban-Kodom Foara; Matshya Bhaban-Shahbagh-Kantaban;Polashi- Shaheed Minar-Doel Chattar-High Court Crossing; Bakshibazar-Shaheed Minar- TSC; Shahidullah Hall Crossing-Doel Chattar and Nilkhet-TSC areas.
There are eight gates for Ramna Park venue, of which three will be used for entrance and two for exit, the DMP commissioner said.
He said adequate numbers of police including SWAT, plain cloth, fine arts team and Dhaka University volunteers would deployed on the day to avert any unwanted incident.
Asaduzzaman Miah said special teams- plain clothes police, detectives, intelligence team, will be deployed along with regular police force to prevent untoward incidents and eve teasing during the Baishakh celebration.
