Green Line asked to compensate Russel by 3pm

The High Court has ordered the owner of Green Line Paribahan to pay the compensation money by 3 pm on Wednesday to Russel Sarker, who lost a leg after a bus of the agency ran him over in April 2018.

The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Wednesday passed the order after Green Line Paribahan sought one month to comply with its order for compensating Tk 50 lakh to Russell.

The court also said they will go next step if Green Line Paribahan does not comply with its order in time.

The court expressed deep dissatisfaction saying that Russell Sarker was a daily worker before losing his leg under a bus of the company, but the Green Line Paribahan did not compensate him although it is running its business.

Earlier on April 4, the HC ordered Green Line Paribahan to pay Tk 50 lakh to Russell by April 10 (today), saying that it would pass an order for confiscation of buses if the transport company did not pay the money within the time frame.

The HC also asked the company not to sell tickets for April 11 (tomorrow) if it failed to pay the money.

Russel, 23, a private car driver, lost his leg on 28 April last year as a bus of Green Line Paribahan had hit his vehicle from behind on Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar on that day. He got down from his car and signaled the bus to stop but driver Kabir Hossain drove his coach over him and fled the scene. Russel's left leg got severed from his thigh down.
