Chawkbazar fire: Two sons of Wahed on 7-day remand

A Dhaka Court has placed two sons of the owner of Wahed Mansion, from where the devastating Chawkbazar fire originated killing 71 people on the night of February 20, on 7-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on Monday granted the remand for Md Hasan and Sohel alias Shaheed after the investigation officer of the case and Chawkbazar Police Station’s Inspector Murad prayed 10-day remand.  

Earlier on April 2, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Qaisarul Islam sent them to jail as they surrendered before it. 

On March, a High Court division bench comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted the siblings bail for three weeks, asking them to cooperate with investigation officer of the case filed over the deadly blaze.

The Chalkbazar fire incident took place at around 10.30 pm on February 20 that claimed 70 lives, including three children and five women, so far.
