3 Rohingya ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfight’ in Teknaf

Three suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Cox’s Bazar in the wee hours of Saturday.

The incident took place at H Block of Nayapara Rohingya camp at Hneela union in Teknaf upazila of the district around 1:30 am.  

The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam, 23, son of Aamir Hossain, Md Jubair, 20, son of Younus and Hamid Ullah, 20, son of Imam Hossain.

They were accused in five cases including murder, said police.  

Four LGs and seven rounds of cartridge were recovered from the spot. 

Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said that on information that a gang of robbers was depositing arms in the hilly area, a team of police conducted a drive.

Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police rescued three bullet-injured robbers from the spot.

Later, they died on the way to hospital.

Three members of police were also injured in this incident.
