Wahed Mansion owner’s sons sent to jail over Chawkbazar fire
A Dhaka court today sent two sons of the owner of Wahed Mansion, from where the devastating Chawkbazar fire originated killing 71 people on the night of February 20, to jail as they surrendered before it.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Qaisarul Islam sent Md Hasan and his brother Md Sohel alias Shahid to jail after scraping their bail plea, reports BSS.
The siblings surrendered through their lawyer and pleaded for fresh bail as the tenure of their three weeks bail granted by the High Court ended. The state however, opposed their plea. After hearing both the sides, the court rejected the bail plea and sent them to jail.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan on March 11 granted the siblings bail for three weeks, asking them to cooperate with investigation officer of the case filed over the deadly blaze.
The High Court at that time had asked them to surrender before lower court once their bail period is over.
