Faruk, Tasveer on 7-day remand
DB police arrested Faruk from Bashundhara residential area and Tasveer from his Baridhara residence on Saturday midnight.

A Dhaka court has granted seven days’ remand to the land owner of FR tower engineer SMHI Faruk Hossain and the owner of its extended portion BNP leader Tasveer Ul Islam in a case filed over the fire incident at Banani in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbeer Yeasir Ahsan Chowdhury on Sunday passed the order after Investigation Officer of the case DB police Inspector Jalal Uddin produced them before the court and prayed 10 days’ remand. 

Earlier on Saturday midnight, DB police arrested Faruk from Bashundhara residential area and Tasveer from his Baridhara residence.

Sub-Inspector Milton Dutta of Banani Police Station filed a case accusing Faruk, 75, Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul, 57, Quasem Drycell Limited Managing Director Tasveer Ul Islam, 66, FR Tower management committee members and several others. 

Government officials said that the 22-storey tower was constructed violating the building code and that it did not have adequate firefighting equipment.
