Atiqul Islam takes oath as DNCC mayor

Atiqul Islam has taken oath as the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath at the Shapla Hall of her office on Thursday at 10:17 am.

Besides the newly elected councillors of DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) also took oath. 

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam administered the oath to the councilors.

Local Government Division’s Senior Secretary SM Ghulam Farooque conducted the oath-taking ceremony where State Minister for LGRD Swapan Bhattacharjee was also present.

On February 28 last, Awami League candidate Atiqul Islam won the by-election to the DNCC mayoral post by a huge margin. Atiqul bagged 8,39,302 votes while his nearest rival Shafin Ahmed of Jatiya Party polled 52,429 in the by-election.

On the same day, 38 general councilor candidates and 12 female councilor contenders won the polls held in 20 wards of DNCC and 18 wards of DSCC.
