Voting in DNCC mayor, 36 ward councillor posts underway

The voting in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor and 36 war councilor posts is underway peacefully. 

The voting began at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm on Thursday without any break. 

Of the wards, 18 wards are under DNCC and 18 are under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). 

A total of 382 mayor, councilor and reserved women councilor candidates are participating in the elections. 

Vote

Five candidates including Awami League (AL) nominated candidate Atiqul Islam is contesting for the mayoral post of DNCC.

The four other aspirants for the mayor post are - Jatiya Party’s (JaPa) Shafin Ahmed, National People’s Party’s (NPP) Anisur Rahman Dewan, People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Shahin Khan and independent candidate Abdur Rahim.

In terms of population, the DNCC is the country’s largest city corporation area with 23.45 lakh voters. The mayoral post fell vacant after the death of Anisul Huq on November 30, 2017.
