Govt to shift chemical factories to Shyampur, Tongi
Industries Ministry today took a decision to shift the chemical factories and warehouses from Chawkbazar in the city to the safer places of Shyampur and Tongi.
The ministry took the decision at a meeting held in the Industries Ministry conference room for undertaking a decision to shift chemical factories from the different buildings at the Chawkbazar area in the old part of the city, said a press release.
Industries Ministry Secretary-in-Charge M Abdul Halim presided over the meeting while representatives from the ministries for industries, land, disaster management and relief, agriculture, housing and public works, and RAJUK, National Housing Authority, Fair Service, Police, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) and Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka Division Commissioner and Dhaka Deputy Commissioner and leaders from Chemical and Plastic associations were present, reports BSS.
As per the decision of the meeting, the chemical factories will be shifted to the BCIC’s Ujala Match Factory at Shyampur Mouza under Kadamtali Police Station and empty place of BSEC at Kathaldia Mauja in Tongi.
Initially, Industries Ministry will construct steel sheds of 4 lakh square feet areas on 12.17 acres of lands in the two places.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Halim said Industries Ministry is working actively to shift chemical factories to safe places from the capital city of Dhaka.
“We will ready the site within the six month for relocating the chemical factories from the city. We have fixed the two temporary places in the interest of public security,” he added.
He said the government will construct the steel structures and businessmen will use the structures by giving logical rent.
He asked the BSEC and BCIC to implement the project quickly.
