Biman hijacker was a listed criminal: RAB
The suspected Biman hijacker, who was killed in a commando operation at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, was a listed criminal, claimed Rapid Action Battalion today.
“His name is Polash Ahmed, son of Pear Jahan Sarder of Sonargaon area in Narayanganj, according to the criminal database,” RAB said in a mobile massage adding that they found fingerprint match with him.
The BG 147 Flight had a seat reserved to Ahmed/Md Polash. He was a passenger of domestic flight from Dhaka to Chattogram, RAB added.
Earlier on Sunday night, army’s Chattogram area commander Major General Matiur Rahman in media briefing said the alleged hijacker was identified only as Mahadi.
However, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry formed a five-member probe committee on Sunday night with Additional Secretary Md Mokabbir Hossain as its head to investigate the ‘attempt to hijack’ an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The other members of the committee are- joint secretary Zanendra Nath Sarker, Director (Flight Safety & Regulations) of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Wing Commander Chy M Zia Ul Kabir, director (planning) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Air Commodore (rtd) Mahbub Jahan Khan and senior security consultant of CAAB group captain (rtd) Md Alamgir.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days.
