Russia, USA offer condolences for Chawkbazar fire

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin offered sincere condolences at the loss of lives of many people in a fire in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka.

“I express my sincere condolences at the loss of lives of many people in an incident of fire in Dhaka,” Putin said in his message to President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.

“Please convey the words of sympathy and support to the bereaved families as well as wishes for speedy recovery to all those who were injured in this disaster,” the Russian president added.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador in Dhaka Earl R. Miller expressed his heartfelt condolences at the loss of lives of many people in a fire in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka.

“I express my heartfelt condolences and those of the American people for all those affected by the fire at Chwakbazar in Dhaka last night,” Miller said in his message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, the great nation of Bangladesh and the families of the victims during this difficult time,” the US envoy added.

The death toll in the inferno in the old part of Dhaka stood at 68 as the authorities today wrapped up the rescue drive.
