Govt bans sea fishing for 65-day

The government on Sunday imposed a 65-day ban on fishing in the exclusive economic zone area of the Bay of Bengal from 20 May to 23 July, aiming to boost the country’s fish output.

Catching all types of sea fish, including crustaceans (shrimp, lobster, cuttlefish) has been prohibited, said a handout.
All the commercial trawlers have been requested to abide by the government order.

Legal action will be taken under the Marine Fisheries Ordinance, 1983 if anyone is found fishing in the area defying the ban, the release added.
