Ex-Feni judge fined Tk 5,000 over protocol
The High Court (HC) has fined Tk 5,000 to former district and sessions judge of Feni Feroz Alam for not providing protocol to the then Judge of the HC Justice Syed Amirul Islam in the district.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order after hearing a suo moto (voluntary) rule issued by a HC bench in 2003.
The court said Feroz will have to serve in jail for seven days if he does not pay the fine.
The court also acquitted Nazir and Naib Nazir as they were not found guilty in the incident.
Deputy Attorney General Rafi Ahmed told Jago News that the then HC judge Justice Syed Amirul Islam went to Feni in 2003 for a visit. As per the warrant of precedent the district and sessions judge is supposed to provide protocol to a judge of the Appellate and HC Divisions when they go out of Dhaka, but the then Feni Judge Feroz Alam did not contact with him although he was informed about the visit. Then the HC issued a suo moto rule against Feroz Alam on October 29 of that year.
In the judgment, the HC today issued some directives for the district and session judges and the district administrations about giving protocol to the Supreme Court judges when they are on visit.
