World Mother’s Day being celebrated

World Mother’s Day is being celebrated in the country on Sunday as elsewhere across the world honouring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.

Different socio-cultural organizations chalked-out various programmes across the country, including bringing out processions, holding discussions, organizing reception and cultural functions.

On the occasion of World Mother’s Day, newspapers published special supplements and the TV channels broadcast special programmes.

The celebration of Mother’s Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration.
