21 nominated for Ekushey Padak

The government today announced the names of 21 eminent personalities for the “Ekushey Padak-2019” for their outstanding contributions to respective fields.

An official release of the Cultural Affairs Ministry today disclosed the names, adding, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the Ekushey Padak to the awardees at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka at 4 pm on February 20,” reports BSS.

This year’s award winners are: Late Prof Halima Khatun (posthumous), Advocate Golam Arif Tipu and Prof Mowara Islam for Language Movement; Subir Nandi, late Azam Khan (posthumous) and Khairul Anam Shakil for music; Lucky Inam, Suborna Mostafa and Liakat Ali Lucky for acting; Syeda Khanam for arts; Jamal Uddin Ahmed for fine arts; Khitish Chandra Bioshya for Liberation War; Dr Biswajit Ghosh and Dr Mahbubul Haque for research; Dr Pronab Kumar Barua for education; and Rizia Rahman, Imdadul Haque Milon, Wasim Saha, Anwara Seyd Haque, Aminul Ahsan Saber and Hori Shankor Joldas for language and literature.

The ‘Ekushey Award’ is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions to a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics.

The cultural affairs ministry conferred the award with a gold medal, a certificate of honour and cash.
