Jamaat’s hartal underway

The countrywide 24-hour hartal, enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the Supreme Court order upholding the death penalty of its ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, is underway on Sunday.

No picketing was reported in the capital or anywhere else in the country until 10:15am.

Vehicles including private passenger busses, privately owned cars and CNG-run auto-rickshaws were seen plying the streets.

The shutdown that began at 6am today will continue till 6pm next day.
