ACC forms body to look into Jahalom’s case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today formed a committee to probe the matter of Jaha Alam who was imprisoned wrongly for three years.

“If the ACC officials have any negligence in Jaha Alam’s case, action will be taken against them. That’s why a probe body is formed. An ACC director will lead the committee,” ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood told reporters at the Commission’s headquarters today, reporters BSS.

ACC officials say Abu Hasnat Md Abdul Wadud, the director of the legal wing of the national anti-graft agency, will be leading the body.

“We have formed the committee to look into the irregularities in the entire matter,” Mahmood said.

Jute mill worker Jaha Alam, an innocent man who had been imprisoned since February 2016, got released from Kasimpur Central Jail early today. Jaha Alam was arrested earlier in graft cases filed by the national anti-graft watchdog for allegedly swindling money from state-owned Sonali Bank.

The High Court released him from the charges yesterday.
