Elections held peacefully, says observers

The 11th parliamentary elections were held in a very peaceful, fair and joyous environment, says an Election Monitoring Forum.   

The forum formed by 56 local and national level NGOs said this after unveiling a report on the elections at a press conference at National Press Club in the capital on Thursday morning.  

The report was made after observing 17,165 poling centres of 239 parliamentary seats out of 299, the forum said.   

In a written statement, Professor Mawlana Md Abed Ali, Executive Director of the forum, said the elections in overall consideration were held in a very peaceful, fair and joyous environment. 

The voter presence was satisfactory and no untoward situation was seen, he added.  

Mawlana Md Abed on behalf of the forum thanked and greeted the Election Commission for holding the elections efficiently.

He also said the administrative officials including executive magistrates, presiding officers and polling officer cooperated them to observe the voting process.

The 11th parliamentary elections were held on December 30 last year while Awami League got landslide victory with 258 seats and formed new government.
