Road crashes kill 4,439 in 2018

At least 4,439 were killed and 7,425 injured in 3,103 road crashes across the country in 2018.
Chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NiSCha) Ilias Kanchan on Tuesday said this at the road accident statistics publication ceremony held at Sagor-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity.
Earlier, on Friday, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare association, said a total of 7,221 people were killed in at least 5,514 road accidents across the country last year.
They identified several reasons, including reckless driving, overtaking, road conditions, and vehicles without fitness, for the road accidents.
