Cumilla road crash kills 13

At least 13 workers have been killed after a coal-laden truck turtle on them while they were sleeping inside a labour shade in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla. 

The accident occurred at Narayanpur area of Goalpasha union around 5am. 

The officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Police Station Abdullah Al Mahfuz confirmed the matter.

The deceased were Md Selim (28), Kanak Chandra Roy (35), Morsalin (18), Ranjit Chandra Roy (30), Bikash Chandra Roy (28), Mrinal Chandra Roy (21), Dip Chandra Roy (19), Shankar Chandra Roy (22), Monoranjan Chandra Roy (19), Biplob (19), Arun Chandra Roy (25), Masum (28); all were hailing from Nilphamari.

A coal-laden truck overturned on the workers while unloading, leaving 13 workers died on the spot and five others were injured then, the OC said.

He also said that hearing the news, local people, fire service and police rushed to the spot and were trying to rescue them. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital while a worker succumbed to his injuries on the way.
