SC upholds ex-forest chief Gani’s 12-year jail term

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday also upheld the lower court verdict that sentenced former Chief Conservator of Forest Osman Gani to 12 years’ imprisonment in a corruption case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice M Imaan Ali passed the order after dismissing an appeal filed by Gani challenging the High Court (HC) verdict.

Lawyer AM Amin appeared before court for Gani while Md. Khurshid Alam Khan for the ACC.

Earlier, on December 15, 2015, the High Court upheld the lower court verdict that convicted and sentenced Gani to 12 years’ imprisonment for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information in his wealth statement submitted to the ACC.

On July 26, 2007, the ACC filed a corruption case against Gani and his wife with Uttara Police Station.

On June 5, 2008, Judge AKM Arifur Rahman of the Special Court-10 sentenced Gani to 12 years’ imprisonment.
