Man killed in Sundarban ‘gunfight’ with RAB

A man was killed during a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Mrigamari khal area near Shela River in Sundarban around 6:15am on Friday.

The deceased is Alam Khan (40), he was the chief of forest robbers’ gang, Alam Bahini.

On secret information, a team of RAB 8 conducted an operation in Sundarban to detained forest robbers. In the presence of RAB member’s robbers of Alam Bahini opened fire to RAB members. The RAB members also fire backed the robbers, which triggered a gunfight and left Alam Khan dead, said Major Adnan Ahmed, operation officer of RAB 8.

RAB official also said they recovered two one-shooter gun, four one-pipe guns, two two-pipe guns, riffle, shotgun, 147 bullets, and local-made weapons from the spot.

Later, local people identified the deceased as the chief of forest robbers’ gang, said RAB.
