2 killed in Shariyatpur ‘gunfight’
Two suspected dacoits were killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Shariyatpur in the wee hours of Monday.
The incident took place at Dewbhouge village at Rudrakar union in the sadar upazila of the city around 3am.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Akon, 40, son of Sekander Ali, hailing from Kalkini upazila of Madaripur and Rasel Hawlader, 32, son of Arshad Ali Hawlader, hailing from Rajoir upazila.
Besides, four police members were also injured during the gunfight. They are Assistant Sub Inspector of DB police Sohag, Sub Inspector of Palong Model Police Station Jahir, constables Rasel and Md. Masum Sheikh.
The injured police members were sent to Shariyatpur Sadar Hospital, Palong Model Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Moniruzzaman.
According to police source, a gang of dacoits were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area. Acting on a tip off, Shariyatpur DB police and Palong Model Thana Police rushed to the spot. Sensing the presence of them, the dacoits opened fire on them. In reply, police backed fire. After fleeing of the dacoits, police recovered two bodies from the spot.
