Subarnachar AL suspends Ruhul Amin over gang rape
Noakhali’s Subarnachar upazila Awami League (AL) has suspended Ruhul Amin from the post of Publicity Secretary over gang-rape of a mother of four children.
The decision was taken from an emergency meeting held on Friday night, said the upazila AL president advocate Omor Faruq.
Among others, the party’s General Secretary and also Charjubli union parishad chairman Hanif Chowdhury, Vice President Sanaullah Bcom and Joint Secretary advocate Abul Bashar were present during this time.
On December 31 midnight, a mother of four children was allegedly gang-raped by 10 to 12 AL men following an altercation during the vote casting in the national polls.
According to the victim’s husband, a group of hoodlums stormed their house in the early hours of Monday and tied up all the family members except his wife.
They took the woman outside the house at gunpoint where they violated her in turns, the victim’s husband claimed.
After the rape, they also threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to anyone, saying they would kill her if otherwise, he said.
With the help of neighbours, the victim was taken to hospital on Monday noon and a case was filed against nine people over the incident.
Police arrested six people including Ruhul Amin so far.
