Ruling Awami League secretary Obaidul Quader has said the new cabinet may take oath before the Home Coming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on January 10.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said this on Tuesday while talking to the journalists at the party chief’s political office at Dhanmondi.

The Election Commission will publish the gazette notification of the election results earlier and then Sheikh Hasina will met President Abdul Hamid. The President will ask Sheikh Hasina to form the new government as her party gets majority seats in the elections, Quader said.

He said, a discussion meeting will be held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh Auditorium in the capital on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s Home Coming Day with Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

On December 30, the Awami League-led Grand Alliance clinched a landslide victory with over two thirds majority in the 11th general elections.

Out of the 299 seats where elections were held, the grand alliance won in 288 constituencies, including 259 seats bagged by Awami League.

Eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikyafront won in 7 constituencies.

HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party secured 20 seats with “plough” symbol and independent candidates got three seats.

Voting in Gaibandha-3 constituency was postponed due to death of a candidate and the results of Brahmanbaria-2 seat will be announced after re-election in its three centres.
