Nat’l polls: Candidates whose nominations rejected

The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday started to scrutinize the nomination papers filed for contesting the 11th parliamentary elections which is scheduled to be held on December 30.

The EC will finalizes the list of the candidates for contesting the polls on December 9. 

Here is the list of the candidates whose nominations were rejected: 

1. The nomination form of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for Feni-1 constituency was rejected.

Returning Officer and Feni Deputy Commissioner Md. Wahiduzzaman said: “Khaleda won’t contest the polls as the High Court in its observation said if a person is sentenced for more than two years by a lower court, he or she would not be able to take part in polls while an appeal against the conviction is pending.”

2. Gono Forum candidate Dr. Reza Qibria’s nomination for Habiganj-1 constituency was rejected for loan defaulting. 

Besides, the nominations of Individual candidates Amatul Qibria Keya and Abdul Hannan, Islami Front candidate Jubayer Ahmed, Islamic Front candidate Badorpur Reza Selim and Islami Andolon candidate Abu Hanif Ahmed Hossain were also rejected from the same constituency. 

3. BNP candidate Golam Maula Rony’s nomination for Patuakhali-3 constituency was rejected as his signature is not in the election affidavit.

4. Individual candidate Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam’s nomination for Bagura-4 constituency was rejected, Nandigram upazila election officer Ashraf Hossain confirmed the matter to Jago News.  

4. AL rival candidate Asaduzzaman Bablu’s nomination for Rangpur-1 constituency was rejected as the gazette notification of his resignation from Upazila Parishad chairman was not published.  

5. BNP candidate Aminul Haque’s nomination for Rajshahi-1 constituency was rejected as he didn’t submit certified copies of the cases filed against him. 

6. Individual candidate Imran H Sarker’s nomination for Kurigram-4 constituency was rejected as an error was found in the list of signatures of 1 percent voters.

7. Three nominations of 29 candidates for 4 constituencies in Bagerhat were rejected. Jatiya Party candidate Ahmed Jobayer’s nomination for Bagerhat-1 constituency was rejected for loan defaulting and the party’s another candidate Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman’s nomination for Bagerhat-2 was rejected as an error was found in his nomination form. Returning officer rejected the nomination form of NPP candidate Md. Aminul Islam for Bagerhat-4 for mistake in the form.
