CEC directs police not to harass polling officers

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has directed police not to harass the returning officers adding that he didn’t any direction to collect information about them.

CEC on Thursday said this at a special meeting of law and order affairs ahead of national polls at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital. 

“The question has been risen about the information collection and the polling officers are embarrassed,” the CEC said.

He said there is no reason to collect information about them as most of the polling officers performed duties in previous election. 

“Police can collect information about new polling officials by using secret source but it is unnecessary to collect information going door to door,” he said.

After giving 12-point direction, he asked the police not no arrest the people without warrant after declaration of election schedule. 

Four election commissioners, EC secretary, additional secretary, IGP, DMP commissioner were present among others were present at the meeting.
