No scope to defer polls date further: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said there is no scope to defer the date of the 11th national parliamentary elections further.

The CEC said this while briefing to the returning officers at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday morning. 

He said we have already completed all the preparations for holding the election on December 30.

“We have fixed the date considering many things,” said the CEC adding, “Besides, the new parliament must be formed by January 29.”

Earlier on November 12, the Election Commission announced new election schedule following the demand of different political parties.

As per the new schedule, the 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 30. The last date for submitting nomination papers is 28 November.
