PM to meet Oikyafront regarding polls

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to meet Oikyafront, a newly formed political alliance led by veteran lawyer Dr Kamal Hossen.

In today’s cabinet meeting, the decision was made in a not ascertained conversations, according to several ministers who were present there.

Such a step comes in response to Dr Kamal Hossain’s letter written to the Prime Minister on Sunday. There, Dr Kamal sought dialogue regarding the upcoming election.

Besides, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader also said AL has agreed to sit with Jatiya Oikyafront.

“On behalf of the party, I am informing that we agree with the Jatiya Oikyo Front’s proposal for dialogue,” he told a press conference on Monday at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka, BSS reports. 

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead dialogue from AL.

She does not want to close the door to dialogue, he added.

The minister said the Oikyo Front will be informed of the time, place and other related matters of the dialogue very soon.

AL Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Publicity Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain and Central Working Committee Member SM Kamal Hossain were present at the press conference.
