Cops foil govt job seekers’ sit in programme, detain 4

Police on Sunday foiled the sit in programme of job seekers who blocked Shahbagh intersection in the capital under the banner of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Parishad demanding to raise the age limit for recruitment in public service to 35 years.

Police dispersed their programme and detained four students from the spot at 10am. 

Confirming the matter, Hasibur Rahman, Joint Convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Parishad, said: “They called an emergency meeting after police foiled their programme. Further programme will be declared after the meeting.”  

Azizul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna zone, said: “They detained four students from the spot for interrogation.”

On September 10, the parliamentary body recommended that the government can raise the age limit for entering civil service to 35 years.

Currently, age limit for entering the public service is 30 years, while retirement age is 59 years. Retirement age of freedom fighters is 60 years.
