‘Drug dealer’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with police on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf road at Damdamia Check-post in Teknaf upazila.

The incident occurred this morning. The deceased was identified as Lalu.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive in the area while two groups of drug traffickers were engaged in a gunfight over sharing their money, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, he said.

At one stage, police recovered the body of Lal Mia and recovered two guns, two bullets and 6,000 pieces of Yaba pill from the spot.
