Govt cancels employee holidays for cyclone ‘Titli’

The government has canceled all kinds of holidays for employees in 19 coastal districts to battle cyclone ‘Titli’.

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said this at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Thursday.

We have taken massive preparation for the cyclone ‘Titli’, said the minister.

Earlier, a cyclone packing winds of over 125 kilometres (80 miles) per hour and heavy rains hit eastern India early Thursday, local media reported, with over 300,000 people evacuated from low-lying areas.

Cyclone Titli, which intensified into a “very severe cyclonic storm” over the Bay of Bengal, made landfall near Gopalpur on India’s east coast, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported.
