Digital Security Act to save innocents: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the Digital Security Act was enacted mainly to punish evil persons and save the innocents, BSS reported.

“There is no cause of being panicked for good people upon enactment of the Digital Security Act as it will protect them and bring the evil persons to justice,” he told a discussion of Awami League industries and commerce affairs sub-committee at Krishibid Institution at Farmgate here.

Turning down the BNP’s allegation that the Digital Security Act was aimed at prolonging the stay of the government, Quader said that the law was enacted to check digital crimes, including resorting to violent acts through spreading rumours.

Referring to spreading of rumours during the students’ movement for safe roads, Quader said the BNP spread rumours to carry out violent activities and the party was continuing to do so.

Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser and Awami League Advisory Council Member HT Imam, Bangladesh Bank former Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, PM’s Private Sector Development Affairs Adviser Salman F Rahman and AL Industries and Commerce Secretary Abdus Sattar addressed the function, among others.

AL Industries and Commerce Affairs Sub-committee Chairman and AL Advisory Council member Kazi Akram Uddin chaired the function.
