Cabinet approves capital punishment for drug crimes
The cabinet has approved a new draft of “Narcotics Control Act, 2018” on Monday.
From now on, the people who are involved with drug crimes will get capital punishment.
Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam confirmed the matter to the journalists at secretariat following a cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s office in the capital’s Tejgaon where the head of the cabinet in the chair.
Alam said a provision of death penalty was kept in the law for carrying more than 5 gram yaba.
He said the provision of strict measures was kept in the new act to control the massive spread of yaba tablets. Besides, the provision of capital punishment was kept for carrying 25 grams or more than 25 grams of heroin-cocaine or similar types of “Ka” category drugs.
The cabinet also congratulated Bangladesh U-18 national women’s football team for clinching the title of SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship.
