GP official among 2 held for selling illegal SIMs
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday evening arrested two persons along with a huge quantity of SIM cards of Grameenphone from the city’s Mirpur area, reports BSS.
“We arrested two persons, Toufiq Hossain Khan Palash, 38, and a senior executive (business cell) of GP, Syed Tanvirur Rahman, 35, and seized 867 pieces of SIMs issued against 42 companies without taking their approval, from the capital’s Mirpur area around 7.30pm on Saturday,” said a RAB official.
A squad of RAB-4 conducted the drive upon filing of an extortion case with Bhashantek Police Station by a foreigner, he said, adding that the foreigner alleged a person identifying him Mamun phoned him (foreigner) over his number from 01789822189 and demanded Taka 10 crore as extortion.
Registration of the GP number (01789822189) was given against a company Microcode Information without taking their approval, he informed.
During the primary investigation, RAB officials have found that the arrestees in connivance with each other used to take registration of a huge number of GP SIM cards against many companies without taking their approval and later sold those to other people at higher price.
Legal action was taken to this end.
