Myanmar removes its false claim over St Martin

Myanmar has removed its false claim over the Saint Martin Island following a strong protest note from Bangladesh.

Confirming the news, foreign ministry senior secretary Md Shahidul Haque said that it was informed in the 20th meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

It is learnt that Myanmar has removed the distorted information on Saint Martin Island from their Website that shown the island as their territory, following a strong protest from Bangladesh.

Bangladesh government on Saturday summoned the Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka U Lwin Oo and handed over a strong word protest note to him.

In this connection, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Dipu Moni said that it is a reprehensible matter. The committee has recommended authority concerned to be more alert about this kind of evil intention of Myanmar.

Member of the committee and Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Muhammad Faruque Khan, Selim Uddin and Begum Mahjabin Khaled were also attended the meeting with Dr Dipu Moni in the chair.
