Tobacco kills 1 lakh in Bangladesh per year: Nasim
Every year, around 100,000 people in Bangladesh die and more than 382,000 people become physically disabled due to tobacco-caused diseases. It means more than 11 people die every hour across the country, said Health and Family Affairs Minister Mohammad Nasim.
He made the statement while addressing a press conference held in the Secretariat on Thursday.
Around 2.5 crore people use tobacco every day, said Nasim.
He also said that the government passed ‘Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Bill’in 2013. But, only law cannot control the problem.
Later, the minister inaugurated www.morokermanushgulo.com.bd to create public awareness about tobacco.
