PRAN-RFL files defamation cases against Jugantor, Jamuna TV
PRAN-RFL Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh, on Tuesday filed two separate defamation cases against Daily Jugantor and television channel Jamuna TV seeking Tk 2000 crore compensation for publishing and airing news with ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ information against of its two sister concerns.
Omor Faruque, manager of the company, on behalf of Rangpur Metal Industries Limited and Pran Agro Limited filed the cases with Dhaka’s First Joint District Judge Utpal Bhattacharjee’s court.
Lawyer advocate Tanzim Al Islam stood before the court on behalf of the PRAN-RFL group.
Managing Director (MD) of Jamuna Television, Chief News Editor (CNE), Reporter Mahbubur Rahman Ripon, Shibli Noman and Nazmul Hassan were made defendants in the case filed against Jamuna TV.
In another case against Daily Jugantor, Acting Editor, Chief Reporter and Publisher of the Daily were made defendants.
According to the case, Jamuna TV and Jugantor published and aired news with ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ information against PRAN-RFL group that destroy reputation and make a loss of Tk 2000 crore.
Prior to this, mobile operators Grameen Phone, Robi and National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed more three cases with Dhaka Joint district judge court against Jamuna TV and Daily Jugantor in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
