Kushtia pre-poll violence kills AL man

An activist of Awami League was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates contesting the upcoming fourth phase union parishad (UP) elections in Kushtia Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.

Masud Karim Laltu Mollah, 42, son of Sohrab Molla, of village Dohokula, was declared dead when he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital around 11:30am.

The clash took place at Dohokula of Alampur union in Sadar upazila around 10:30am.

Md Shahabuddin, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station confirmed the matter.

The injured men were also admitted to the hospital. Police also detained 15 people of both group in the incident.

The fourth phase of UP elections will be held on May 7.
