Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman struggled for peace, equality and independence and establishing democracy throughout his life.

Marking the 45 years of receiving Julio-Curie Peace Prize by Bangabandhu and awarding “Bangabandhu Shanti Padak” by Bangladesh Shanti Praishad (Bangladesh Peace Council), she said, “The Father of the Nation was an undisputed leader of freedom-loving, repressed and common people.”

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh emerged as an independent country on the world map under courageous, dynamic and charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu.

He (Bangabandhu) inspired Bangali nation to participate in the War of Liberation, she added.

Recalling the outstanding contribution and sacrifices of Bangabandhu to the welfare of the country and its people with due respect, Sheikh Hasina said Father of the nation spent his whole life to ensure people’s economic emancipation and build a “Sonar Bangla” free from all sorts of hunger, poverty, illiteracy and exploitation.

The Prime Minster said “The Julio-Curio Peace Prize award was the first ever international award for Bangladesh and it was an international recognition to Bangabandhu for his outstanding contribution to establish the world peace.”

Referring to Bangabandhu’s foreign policy, “Friendship towards all, malice towards none”, the premier said after assuming power, the Awami League government is always following principles and ideology of Bangabandhu to establish the world peace.

She called upon all to make combined efforts to build a hunger and poverty-free, happy-prosperous “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Father of the Nation.
