Mild earthquake jolts Bangladesh
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude in the Richter Scale jolted most of the places in the country including the capital Dhaka this morning, reports BSS.
“The epicenter of the tremor was located at Kokrajhar district of Assam state of India, 293 kilometers north of Dhaka,” M Hanif Sheikh, said a meteorologist at Dhaka met office.
He said the earthquake struck at the depth of 10 kilometers and occurred around 10:50 am which lasted for 30 seconds.
The nearest border of Bangladesh from the epicenter is Bhurungamari of Kurigram district, he said.
According to the scale of seismologists, an earthquake ranging from 5 to 5.9 is considered a moderate earthquake.
