One killed in gunfight with RAB in Rajshahi
An alleged drug-trader was killed in a gunfight between RAB and his cohorts in Dhurail area under Mohanpur upazila in the district last night.
According to RAB, the deceased was identified as Dulal Mian, 45, son of late Ibrahim Hossain of Hariharpur village under the same upazila.
He was a listed drug-trader and five cases relating to drug-trading, robbery and kidnapping remained pending with different police stations against him.
The RAB officials told local journalists that a patrol team of the elite force asked a group of suspected drug peddlers moving in the area to surrender.
Sensing danger, the gang opened fire on the elite force. In retaliation, the RAB members fired back that triggered the “gunfight”, said Major Ashraful Islam of RAB-5.
At one stage, the group of drugs peddlers fled the scene leaving behind bullet-hit Dulal on the spot, he said.
He was rushed to Mohanpur Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Later, the RAB members seized a foreign-made pistol with one round of bullet and 506 yaba tablets from the scene.
