Akifa’s death: Ganjeraj Paribahan owner arrested

Members of Raid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 on Sunday arrested the owner of Faisal Ganjeraj Paribahan over the death of one-year-old baby Akifa Khatun, who was killed when a bus belonging to the company struck her and her mother.

Md. Jainal Abedin, 63, son of late Adel Uddin Matubbor, was arrested from his home at Jhiltuli area in Faridpur around 5:30am, said RAB-8 Commander Additional Superintendent of Police Roisuddin.

On Aug 28, Rina Khatun had been crossing the road at the Chourohash intersection while carrying her daughter Akifa, when she was struck by the Faisal Ganjeraj bus.

The impact sent Akifa flying out of her mother’s arms. She later succumbed to her injuries on Aug 30 while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Akifa’s father, vegetable trader Harunur Rashid, filed a case against the Faisal Ganjeraj owner, the bus driver Khokon Mia and his helper over the death of his daughter.
