Give attention so that Bangladesh doesn’t need to beg for food: PM

Putting emphasis on keeping up the country’s advancement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday asked the agriculturists to give special attention so that Bangladesh does not need to beg to others for food in future, reports BSS.

“We want Bangladesh’s march forward to continue and we don’t want to move by begging hand … it’s our goal,” she said.

The premier was addressing the inaugural function of the 6th National Convention and an International Seminar of the Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB) in its auditorium at Farmgate here.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has become self-reliant in food. “Our government and the Awami League’s policy is that we will become self-reliant in all sectors including food and we will not beg to anybody,” she said.

On the other hand, she said, the BNP’s policy is not becoming self-reliant in food and that’s why they always want to bring food aid from abroad. “So I would like to request the agriculturists to give special focus so that Bangladesh no more needs to beg to others for food,” she added.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury was present at the function as the special guest while KIB President AMM Saleh presided over it.

President and CEO of IFDC Scot J Angel and KIB Secretary General Md Khairul Alam Prince also spoke on the occasion.

Agriculturists Dr Mirza Abdul Jalil, Dr Abdur Razzak, Abdul Mannan and AFM Bahauddin Nasim were present on the dais.

Bahauddin Nasim received the “life time achievement award” from the KIB for his outstanding contributions to the development of agriculture as well as other fields.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over this award to Nasim.
