‘Drug trafficker’ killed in C’nawabganj ‘shootout’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight between his fellows and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Nayadiari in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hossain Babu, 35, son of Alam Hossen, a union parishad member, at Shibrampur village of Bangabari union in the upazila.

Members of the elite force conducted a drive at a mango orchard as they were informed a bung of ‘drug traffickers’ gathered in the area for ‘drug dealing’.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the ‘drug dealers’ started firing on the Rab members, forcing them to fire back.

After a brief gunfight, the Rab members recovered Babu with bullet wounds and took him to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Two Rab members were injured at that time.

One pistol, three bullets, one magazine and 177 bottles were recovered from the spot.
