6 killed in road accidents in 3 dists

At least six people were killed and 24 injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Faridpur and Mymensingh on Wednesday.  

In Brahmanbaria, three people were killed and 20 others injured as a passenger bus plunged into the roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering in the district on Wednesday.

Identities of them could not be known immediately. 

The incident took place on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Baishamura area in Sarail upazila around 1:30pm.

Md. Hossain Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station, said a Sylhet-bound bus of Ena Paribahan plunged into roadside ditch after its drive lost control over the steering. Three people were killed on the spot and 20 others injured.

In Faridpur, a college student was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Moshaujan Bus stand area under Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Monira Akter, 18, of Krishnapur village under Dangi union of the same upazila.

Monira was a student of class-12 of Monohorpur MA Sukur Women College.

Quoting locals, Sheikh Mafujur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway police Station, said that the accident took place when a bus of Sheba Green Line paribahan ran over Monira.

The victim died on the spot, the OC added.

After the accident, local people blocked the highway for an hour.

In Mymensingh, at least two persons including a child were killed and four others injured in a road accident at Rupchandrapur area on Mymensingh's Phulpur road in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh on Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Abid Hossain, 5, and Azizur Rahman, 22, hailing from Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.

The accident took place when a Mymensingh-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Haluaghat collided head on with a truck in the area, killing the child on the spot around 12:15pm, said Mahbubul Haque, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station.

The injured persons were rushed to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Azizur died.

On information, police recovered the bodies.

Police have seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene.

A case was lodged with the policestation in this regard.
