Illegal presidents won`t get pension
Cabinet today approved draft law cancelling pension, allowances and other state benefits of presidents who came to power illegally.
The Cabinet, in a meeting headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, approved the final draft of the law stating the entitled benefits of former heads of state.
“Former presidents are extended the benefits mentioned in the President’s Pension Ordinance of 1979, which had been amended once in 1988”, Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said.
The High Court had directed the government to turn into law all ordinances issued during military rules, for which a draft had been placed on Dec 15, 2014, he added.
It was tabled again on Monday after integrating suggestions by the Cabinet.
