Shafik not arrested in specific allegation: BNP

General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, senior journalist and presenter Shafik Rehman was arrested on the basis of Facbook status of Sajib Wazed Joy, ICT affairs adviser of Prime Minister, not taking any specific allegation against him. 

Mirza Fakhrul said this at a press conference which was held at political office of BNP’s chairperson at 11am on Saturday.

He alleged that US court didn’t register the allegation of killing against Shafik Rehman but the country’s police arrested him on the basis of Sajib Wazed Joy facebook status.

Shafik Rehman and Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman were framed by Awami League, he added.

The program was attended among others by BNP’s steering committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosarrof Hosen, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarker, Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Selima Rahman, BNP chairperson adviser Dr. Osman Faruk, Amir Khasru Chowdhury.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested journalist Shafik Rehman from his residence of Eskaton in the capital on April 16.
