Thai Airways craft skids off runway

A Thai Airways aircraft today skidded off runways of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here while landing amid heavy rainfall causing flight operation suspension for two hours, reports BSS.

“The right wheels of Boeing 777 aircraft skidded off the runway to grass and mud, but the pilot managed to steer back towards the runway within a few seconds,” a spokesperson of Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) told BSS.

After the incident the HSIA rescue team rushed to the spot and evacuated all 145 passengers onboard unhurt from the craft, said AKM Rezual Karim, CAAB public relations officer. The flight which came from Thailand landed at 12.21 pm. “All flight operation was suspended till 2.33 PM as some portion of runway was full of thick mud and grass due to the incident,” Karim said.

The aircraft was towed to the outside of the runway zone after one hour of the accident, officials said.
