Govt to review BB’s vault security system: Mannan
State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan today said the government will review the whole security system of the central bank’s vault for ensuring its foolproof protection, reports BSS.
“There have been six tier measures for ensuring security of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) vault. Even, the BB governor must have to take permission from two to three places, if he wants to visit the vault,” he told journalists after a meeting with high officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and BB at his Secretariat office here.
During the meeting, BB Governor Fazle Kabir, Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division M Eunusur Rahman, NBR Member Kalipada Halder and Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Dr M Shahidul Islam, among others, were present at the meeting.
Mannan said he will place the total situation of this issue before the Finance Minster AMA Muhith after returning home from New York, adding, “An investigation or review committee is likely to be formed to this end for further strengthening the system.”
Denying the report on gold scam published in a Bengali national daily, the state minister said, “The report is not entirely true as the number 40 in Bangla was mistakenly tipped as 80 in English due to having similarity of numbers 4 and 8. Because of the clerical mistake, the purity of the gold was recorded 80 percent instead of 40.”
